About Counselling. Lorraine

What Is Counselling?

Counselling/Psychotherapy is a talking therapy. Within this confidential space, your self-awareness can grow; you can learn things about yourself you never knew before. As a trusting relationship develops between us, you may find you can take risks to speak about things you are not able to talk of with your family & friends. Whatever is going on for you can feel "big" & may be having a huge impact. We will respect & hold that conversation between us. We will help you unravel the complexity if that is what is needed.

Lorraine's training has been integrative and Monica's training has been in the person-centred approach. Both theories believes that by providing certain core conditions, this will enable you to find the answers from within yourself & we will facilitate that space to help you do that.

How Might Counselling Help You?

Counselling sessions we provide are confidential. An exception we will make to break this confidentiality could be if you speak of harm being undertaken to yourself or another person. With regards to potential harm to yourself, as we do not provide an emergency service, we would need to discuss together how you might keep yourself safe & supported, whether this be provided by your family, friends, GP or local services, if required. Sometimes other organisations may be able to provide further or more appropriate support, particularly if you are experiencing yourself in a crisis. We can talk further about this subject if you find yourself in this situation.

Our counselling work is supervised & the purpose of this is to ensure that we are meeting our ethical responsibilities. We may take aspects of our work to supervision, but we will always present this in a way that preserves your anonymity & will be treated confidentially.

In addition to counselling services, Monica has been providing supervision to other Counsellors/Psychotherapists for over twelve years. If you are interested in securing a supervision relationship with Monica, please get in touch to discuss further.

Monica has experience supervising trainees and qualified supervisees from various organisations: Ayrshire Council on Alcohol, Ayrshire Hospice, local colleges, charities, CRUSE Bereavement, Employee Assisted Programmes, Erskine Crisis, GP Surgeries, the NHS, Rape Crisis, Relate Scotland, SACRO, Stepping Stones, Tom Allen Centre, The Wynd & various school settings. Monica aims to offer supervisees space & trust to explore issues related to their clients & themselves in a non-judgemental environment.

Recalling her experience as a Student Counsellor, Monica felt it was important to be able to voice her vulnerabilities; she believes supervision should be a place to explore confusion & feel nurtured to grow in confidence & develop as a practitioner. Monica offers support in a reflective & open relationship where you can hopefully feel stimulated & challenged. Supervision can be provided face-to-face usually (but not during Covid-19 pandemic) or currently via telephone, Zoom or Skype.

Monica's fees are: £40.00 per 1 hour (for Student Counsellors) & £45.00 per 1 hour (for qualified individuals), but if accredited or working towards accreditation & require attendance for the minimum 1 1/2 hours, Monica charges £65.00.
